Native American Tuition Waiver
The Native American Tuition Waiver promotes enrollment of members of Native American tribes, for the benefit of all students and the academic community pursuant to ND SBHE Policy 820.
New freshmen and transfer students may apply for the Native American Tuition Waiver by:
- applying for admission,
- being fully accepted to MSU,
- submitting the Minot State General Scholarship Application, and
- submitting the Native American Tuition Waiver application.
- applying by the February 15, 2026 priority deadline.
- Undergraduate new first-year freshmen with an unweighted high school GPA of 2.5 or greater or an undergraduate transfer students with a cumulative college GPA of 2.00 or greater, pursuing a first bachelor's degree,
- Enrolled members of a U.S. Native American Tribe,
- U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident,
- Minot State General Scholarship Application and Native American Tuition Waiver application required for students accepted to MSU (priority deadline is February 15),
- You must be enrolled in 12 or more credits by the end of the 100% refund period (Financial Aid Census Date) for the 16 week semester each fall and spring semester
- Be continuously enrolled in consecutive fall and spring semesters as an undergraduate student.
- Maintain 2.25 or higher cumulative GPA
- If all or a portion of your tuition is paid by a third-party agency, the waiver may be reduced or canceled.
- The waiver will be divided equally between fall and spring semesters.
- ND residents - $4,000 per year
- Non-ND resident - $1,000 per year
- Successfully complete 24 or more total Minot State credits during the fall and spring semesters
- Successful completion requires a D or higher grade
- The summer term can be used to complete your 24 total credits or to improve your GPA if needed
- Students who withdraw or do not complete the 24 total credits per academic year will not be eligible to renew the award for subsequent years
- Will be evaluated for renewal at the end of each spring semester.
- Students who withdraw forfeit their award.
- Eligibility ends upon completion of an undergraduate degree.
- A student may receive only one academic tuition waiver award per year. Students eligible for more than one of the following tuition waiver programs will receive the greatest of the tuition waivers being offered. Other tuition waiver programs include:
- Academic Excellence Scholarship Waiver
- Transfer Waiver
- Employee Spouse/Dependent Tuition Waiver
- Employee Waiver
- ND Veteran Dependent Waiver
- Total gift aid including the Native American Tuition Waiver may not exceed the estimated Cost of Attendance.
