Jan taught secondary business education at Wolford High School for 23 years. She was a finalist for North Dakota Teacher of the Year in 1994, and was named 2005 North Dakota Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year.
She is a professional member of the National Business Education Association (NBEA), treasurer of North Dakota Business and Office Education Association (NDBOEA), the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE), and the Delta Kappa G amma Lambda Chapter, and corresponding secretary for Alpha Omicron State Delta Kappa Gamma.
