FAQ

There are two ways to tell if your class is online or on campus.

  1. Look at the location on your schedule.
    1. If there is a specific campus building and room number, then it is an in-person class that meets on campus.
    2. If it is Web Based, it means your class meets online at the specific times and dates listed.
    3. If it lists MISU Blackboard, it is completely online and you need to follow the deadlines to submit work; however, there is not normally a specific time or day you need to meet with the rest of your class.
  2. If the mode of instruction listed on your course is Online Synchronous (location will be Web Based) or Online Asynchronous (location is MISU Blackboard) then your class is online.

There are some classes that are in-person and take place off campus, typically at the Minot State Air Force Base.

You will be able to see on the class syllabus or in class notes if the course is available only in-person or remotely part of the time or for the entire semester. It is always good to contact your instructor with any questions about meeting places and times.

Students must submit a Cancel/Withdraw to Zero eForm to drop from all classes for a semester. The withdrawal form is term-specific, so you will only be dropped from the courses for the term you pick (i.e. if you withdraw for summer, your fall courses will not be affected).

The Financial Aid page has more information about the withdrawal process.

How do I order an official transcript?

Minot State University has authorized Parchment to provide official transcript ordering securely online at anytime. You must have a major credit/debit card (Visa, MasterCard, or Discover) and a valid email account to request your transcript online. For instructions on ordering or more details, please see our Transcript Requests page.

What makes a transcript "official?"

Transcripts are only considered official when they are sent directly from one institution to another, whether that is electronically, through the mail, or through an authorized third-party like Parchment.

It is best practice to check with the receiving institution on how they prefer to have official transcripts delivered to them.

Transcripts become unofficial if there is a possibility that someone could have altered them. For example, when official transcripts are mailed, they must have a stamp or seal on the back of the envelope to prove that no one has opened it before it reaches the designated recipient. If that seal is broken, or the stamp is misaligned, the transcript becomes unofficial. For electronic transcripts, if a student has the transcript sent to their personal email and then they forward it on, it is no longer considered official as the student could have altered the file.

If a student opens the sealed envelope or forwards it from a personal email account and the receiving institution will not accept it as official, it is the student's responsibility to place and pay for a new order.

Former MSU-Bottineau students should contact Dakota College at Bottineau directly with transcript orders.
