High heels provided: No Excuse for Abuse – Red Run event at Minot State

MINOT, N.D. – On Thursday, April 28, Minot State University’s Title IX department, in conjunction with MSU Life, Residence Life and Housing, Student Activities, and the Wellness Center, will host the University’s annual No Excuse for Abuse – Red Run event.

Focusing on raising awareness about sexual violence on campus and in the Minot community, the event will begin at 12 p.m. on the Quad, located between the campus’s Administration Building and Old Main.

“The No Excuse for Abuse — Red Run event spreads awareness to end sexual violence,” said Lisa Dooley, Minot State Title IX coordinator. “It is important that as a university community, we stand together and advocate against sexual and gender-based violence to make this a safe environment for our growing leaders to develop.”

The public is encouraged to consider competing and/or cheering on their favorite participant as they “run” in heels provided at the event. Contestants will also take part in Minute to Win It games, having an opportunity to win prizes. Food will be provided for faculty, staff, and students with presentation of an MSU ID.

“Sexual violence knows no bounds and is a pervasive problem across the world,” said Dooley. “It will take a collective effort from everyone, especially our future leaders, to put an end to sexual violence.”

Observed as an opportunity to promote education and the prevention of sexual violence, Sexual Assault Awareness Month traces its history to the 1970s when activists first began organizing on a national scale to reduce sexual assault and violence.
