MSU offering classes in newly formed Lifelong Learning Institute

SIGN UP FOR CLASSES

MINOT, N.D. – Minot State University’s Center for Extended Learning (CEL) has announced four classes as part of its inaugural offerings for the Lifelong Learning Institute.

The MSU Lifelong Learning Institute will feature classes from multiple departments throughout Minot State’s curriculum. The first four classes offered are: Art and Architecture of the Middle Ages; Four Nights of Ceramics Open Studio; Hey, Where Did You Get That Shirt?; and Pickleball 101.

“We are excited to announce our new MSU Lifelong Learning Institute,” said Amy Woodbeck, CEL education program coordinator. “The desire to learn never stops no matter the age and we have designed a fun and exciting list of classes. We will continue to add classes throughout the upcoming months, so keep checking the website.”

Art and Architecture of the Middle Ages

  • Instructor: Andrea Donovan, associate professor, art
  • Date: March 12
  • Time: 2-4 p.m.
  • Location: Hartnett Hall
  • Cost: $10
  • Description: The Middle Ages lasted from the fall of Rome to the beginning of the Renaissance. Why is it called the Middle Ages? What happened during these approximately 1,000 years in art history and architecture? How did the social, political, and aesthetic environment influence art and architecture? If you are interested in art and architectural history, this would be a great experience for you!

Four Nights of Ceramics Open Studio

  • Instructor: Linda Olson, professor, art
  • Dates: Feb. 15, Feb. 22, March 1, March 8
  • Time: 6-9 p.m.
  • Location: Ceramics Studio, Pioneer Hall
  • Cost: $40
  • Description: From beginner to advanced, join us in our Ceramics Studio for everything ceramics from basic wedging to wheel throwing to glazing! Limited to 10 participants.

Hey, Where Did You Get That Shirt?

  • Instructor: Micah Bloom, associate professor, art
  • Dates: March 21, March 28, April 4
  • Time: 6:30-8:30 p.m.
  • Location: Hartnett Hall
  • Cost: $35
  • Description: Design and screen print your unique T-shirt. Have you wanted to use your own words or your own pictures and make a T-shirt? Now is your chance! This workshop will guide you through the design and production of an original, wearable art item. In three evening sessions, we will dream up an idea, prepare our materials, and print our own work. Bring your own T-shirts, tote bags, etc. to print.

Pickleball 101

  • Instructor: Kevin Yale, instructor
  • Date: Wednesdays, March 16-April 20
  • Time: 10 a.m.
  • Location: Wellness Center
  • Cost: $50
  • Description: Learn the basics of Pickleball, a paddleball sport that combines the elements of badminton, table tennis, and tennis.
