MINOT, N.D. – Beginning his collegiate career as a thrower on the track team at University of North Dakota, Je-Mario Jones quickly realized he wanted to come back to his hometown to do what he loved most, wrestling.

After being at UND for a few months, Jones missed wrestling and being near family and friends.

“I gave him (wrestling coach Evan Forde) a call a month or two before the semester ended and he said there would be a spot on the team for me, so I came back to Minot and never looked back. It turned out to be one of the best decisions I have ever made as I have had an amazing experience at Minot State both from being a part of the wrestling team and as a student,” Jones said.

Throughout his time as a student-athlete at MSU, Jones appreciated the people most. That being within his wrestling team, but also as a student in the computer science department.

“I would have to say that I owe the most to the Minot State wrestling coaches, Evan Forde and Chayse Jackson. They work extremely hard to promote an environment of excellence for the team in both our wrestling and classroom performance,” he said. “I definitely owe them, as well as my team, a thank you for pushing me and helping me grow as a person.”

“I also owe plenty of credit to the computer science department here at Minot State. The director (chair Scott Kast) and teachers have worked together to create a great program that exposes us as students to many opportunities that will help us in our future careers.”

Along with the relationships he’s made, the environment of wrestling at home will also be greatly missed by Jones.

“My favorite memories at Minot State are definitely our home wrestling duals. It was always something really special to get to experience, like the energy of our team during a match, and putting all of the hard work in the wrestling room to the test,” he said.

Jones will be graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, and although he doesn’t have any concrete plans yet, he hopes he can continue to stay in Minot and give back to the people that helped him get to where he is today.

“What I enjoyed most at Minot State, and what is one of its best features, were the people,” he said. “That is what I will also miss the most.”
