BERTHOLD, N.D. – If you’ve spent any time at the Minot State Wellness Center this past semester, or even the past couple of years, there is a good chance you crossed paths with Mychal Fjeldahl.

Fjeldahl is a regular fixture at the Wellness Center, working at the front desk and teaching an array of fitness classes. For Fjeldahl, the gym isn’t just a place to get fit, it’s a way of life.

“It’s a great big family,” Fjeldahl said of the Wellness Center community. “People respect each other and look after one another. It’s a really great environment to be a part of.”

Fjeldahl chose to study physical education given her passion for fitness and sharing that passion with others.

In addition to completing her degree in physical education this spring, Fjeldahl is also a certified personal trainer, and winner of the Major of the Year Award from SHAPE America. These credentials and awards, make Fjeldahl a standout candidate for numerous employers, including Bottineau High School, which has already offered her a full-time position to teach physical education next fall.

Fjeldahl is looking forward to imparting her knowledge of fitness to younger generations, particularly the prospect of teaching dances like the Cha-Cha, Tango, and Waltz, among others, to her future students.

“Honestly, I’m a little nervous to be going out on my own, but Minot State has prepared me enough that I know I can go out and make a difference in people’s lives,” Fjeldahl said. “I’m ready to get after it.”
