Miss North Dakota USA and Miss North Dakota Teen USA at Minot State

2019 Miss North Dakota USA Samantha Redding and 2019 Miss North Dakota Teen USA Caitlyn Vogel are both current Minot State students

MINOT, N.D. – Minot State University will host a meet and greet with 2019 Miss North Dakota USA Samantha Redding and 2019 Miss North Dakota Teen USA Caitlyn Vogel — both current Minot State students — on Tuesday, Nov. 27 between the women’s and men’s basketball games at the MSU Dome. Tip-off for the women’s game is 5:30 p.m., with the men’s game beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Redding, a senior in the special education program, and Vogel, a freshman enrolled in the nursing program, grew up in Burlington, N.D.

“Our families have known each other forever,” Redding said about the coincidence.

“Usually the titleholders don’t really know each other before pageant weekend but we have the same passion for people with disabilities so that’s going to work well, because we’re going to be doing a lot about the value of inclusion and attending many events that are dear to our hearts,” Vogel added.

Redding has spent the last several years developing a local program called “More Alike than Different,” based on a campaign by the National Down Syndrome Congress.  Although it began with a focus on disabilities, her focus has evolved into teaching acceptance about all differences. Vogel founded a fashion show her senior year of high school for girls with disabilities and ran a summer clothing line for the same demographic.

The titleholders are looking forward to attending the basketball games on Nov. 27 in their new roles.

“We’re excited to get the positive feedback, to know that we have support from MSU. We love Minot State. We’d be going to the games (as students) anyway, so we will just have a different hat on,” Redding said.

The Miss North Dakota USA and Miss North Dakota Teen USA pageant finals took place on Sunday, Nov. 4. Redding and Vogel will compete at the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA national pageants in 2019. Miss USA goes on to represent the United States at the Miss Universe competition. The Miss Universe, Miss USA, and Miss Teen USA beauty pageants offer an international platform for winners to provide humanitarian efforts to affect positive change, while also developing their personal career goals.
