Artist Statement:

My current artwork is just as much an experiment as it is art. With it, I am trying to understand subtle similarities and differences from different perspectives. Being a twin, I’ve had a permanent companion, and at times it feels as though others view us as the same exact person. Whether true or not, I frequently wonder what similarities and differences others see in us, and what similarities and differences I have yet to discover. Using white charcoal on black paper, I explore this idea by drawing alongside my sister. I work in secret from her, creating a drawing by selecting an emotion and drawing half of my face. She simultaneously works on a half of her face, drawing the same emotion on equal paper size. Without ever viewing the other’s drawing or discussing our progress, we create an image of a face that will be joined, for the first time, upon its presentation.
