CLEP is the most widely accepted credit-by-examination program in the country. There are 33 different computer-based examinations in five subject areas. Passing an exam can allow you to earn up to 12 credits. The amount of credit you can earn varies with each college.
NOTE: Minot State does NOT accept all CLEP exams. For a list of exams accepted by Minot State, please see Minot State's Standardized Credit by Exams web site.
CLEP Registration Process
Register to take a CLEP Exam by creating an account on the CLEP web site. After creating an account, you will be able to purchase the exam you wish to take and pay the $97 fee. A video tutorial is available for assistance in registering for a CLEP exam. Exam registrations are valid for 180 days from the date of purchase.
Contact the Academic Testing Center (ATC) at (701) 858-3830 or testingcenter@minotstateu.edu to schedule an exam. There is a $20 administration fee payable to MSU via cash, check, or credit card on the day of the exam.
On the day of your scheduled exam, please bring the following:
- Your printed registration ticket from CLEP’s My Account registration portal
- Your driver’s license, passport or other government-issued identification that includes your photograph and signature. You must show this identification to be admitted to the testing area. The last name on your ID must match the name on your registration ticket. Military test-takers, please bring your military ID.
- $20 administration fee (waived for DANTES funded test takers)
The ATC is located on the 3rd floor of the Administration Building, room 361.
CLEP for Military Personnel
College-Level Examination Program® (CLEP®) exams are available to eligible military personnel as a way to save time and money while earning college credit. To assist military personnel in meeting their educational goals, the Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES) funds CLEP exams for eligible military service members and eligible civilian employees.
