Safety Related Communications to the Campus Community
Minot State University is committed to maintaining a safe and informed campus environment. To ensure timely and effective communication regarding safety-related events, the university issues notifications classified as either Timely Warnings or Safety Alerts. Each message type is determined based on the nature, severity, and circumstances of the incident.
Timely Warnings
Timely Warnings are issued to alert the campus community about specific crimes that represent a serious or continuing threat to the safety of students or employees. These warnings are required under the Clery Act and are issued as soon as sufficient information is available to enable individuals to take appropriate precautions.
Examples of incidents that may prompt a Timely Warning include:
- Sexual assaults
- Armed robbery
- Aggravated assault
- Significant threats occurring on or near campus
- Hazing
Timely Warnings typically include the nature of the incident, location, relevant safety tips, and instructions for staying safe.
Safety Alerts
Safety Alerts are issued at the discretion of university officials for incidents that may not meet Clery Act criteria but still pose a potential safety concern to the university community. These alerts are intended to keep the community informed and prepared.
Examples of situations that may trigger a Safety Alert include:
- Severe weather warnings
- Reports of suspicious individuals or activity
- Off-campus incidents that could impact campus safety
Safety Alerts may be shared through email, text messages, campus website updates, and other communication channels.
