Alumni Association seeking Golden Award nominations

MINOT, N.D. – The Minot State University Alumni Association is currently accepting nominations for its annual Golden Awards. The Golden Awards is the highest award bestowed by the Minot State Alumni Association in recognition for an individual.

Recipients of the Golden Award are chosen based on outstanding service to the University or alumni association and distinguished leadership in the recipient’s career or community.

“The award embodies the history and tradition of Minot State University,” said Janna McKechnie, Minot State director of alumni and annual giving. “The list of past winners are truly the most outstanding alumni and friends of the University who have given their support to the University in so many ways. The committee is asking the greater Minot State community to help ensure that we honor the next generation by nominating worthy individuals.”

Each year, alumni and friends are nominated for the award. A committee is then charged with the efforts of reading applications, gathering information about the nominees, and selecting the honorees. The alumni association places an emphasis on the recognition of individuals who have demonstrated outstanding support of time and talent to the University.

The first award was presented to D. Archie Peterson in 1967. Since that time, more than 90 individuals have been recognized. Along with the Golden Award, Minot State also honors an individual with the Young Alumni Achievement Award, given during the Golden Awards banquet. The criteria are the same as the Golden Award, except for one stipulation: to receive this award, the person must be between the ages of 21-39.

The 2020 Golden Award winners were Chuck Barney, Josh Duhamel, Terry (Ferebee) Eckmann ’81/’82, and John Schwan ’82. The Young Alumni Achievement Award winner was Joseph Brewer ’04. Due to COVID-19 restrictions at the time, the 2020 awards banquet was postponed. Minot State plans to honor both the 2020 and 2021 classes during Homecoming in October.

The Alumni Association Golden Awards committee requests nominations be submitted by Tuesday, March 31.  To nominate, fill out the ONLINE form. For more information on the Golden Awards, please see the Alumni Association’s WEBSITE or contact McKechnie via EMAIL.
