Adding Courses To General Education Requirement
The Critical Competencies Model requires students to learn from assignments throughout a course to achieve Intended Course Objectives. Faculty may submit a course for more than one CC designation. However, a course must meet 70% of each critical competency’s Intended Course Objectives, and the syllabus must include those chosen objectives. Faculty may choose to add their own. The first pages of the applications list Intended Course Objectives.
Applications comprise three pages where the first page describes the category and lists the Intended Course Objectives. The second page requests a course syllabus and a narrative about the course, and the third page is the tracking form that follows an application through the committee process.
The process of requesting GE inclusion resides outside of our software’s workflow in CourseLeaf. As such, the following procedure helps faculty who want a course to count towards Minot State’s Critical Competencies (CC), Foundational Content (FC), or Required Core (RC) General Education Requirement (GER):
- Faculty who want a course to acquire a GE designation must select FC or RC categories in addition to CC categories. Applications include relevant forms.
- Faculty complete the relevant applications, which also require the course’s syllabus and rationale describing how the class meets each FC, RC, and CC requirement. Faculty submit the application packet to the GE chair for the committee’s consideration.
- The chair sends the decision back to the Transfer Specialist in the Registrar’s Office and notifies the faculty member.
- After the GE Committee approves, the chair sends the Tracking Form to the Faculty Senate Secretary for Faculty Senate consideration. The chair also recommends sending a copy of the Tracking Form to the Transfer Specialist in the Registrar’s Office.
Removing Courses From General Education Requirement
The process of requesting GE removal resides outside of our software’s workflow in CourseLeaf. As such, the following procedure helps faculty who want a course removed from Minot State’s Critical Competencies (CC), Foundational Content (FC), or Required Core (RC) General Education Requirement (GER):
- Faculty who want to remove a course from General Education Requirement (GER) submit the General Education Removal Tracking Form to the GE chair: [ Link the updated form ]
- The Registrar’s Office will remove the course from all GER categories, even if faculty overlook selecting a category.
- After the GE Committee approves, the chair sends the Tracking Form to the Faculty Senate Secretary for Faculty Senate consideration. The chair also recommends sending a copy of the Tracking Form to the Transfer Specialist in the Registrar’s Office.
