The rest of your life belongs at Minot State University. Take note of application deadlines!
- Fall semester (August start): Finish your application and send all supporting documents by July 15.
- Spring semester (January start): Finish your application and send all supporting documents by Nov. 15.
After these dates, applications may be considered.
Admissions Checklist
Step 1: Apply
Take the first step into your future and apply to Minot State. Don't forget to pay your $35 USD application fee. This fee can be paid in several ways:
- When you submit your application.
- By calling enrolling Enrollment Services at +1-701-858-3350 with your credit card information.
- By U.S. check or money order payable to Minot State University. Note the applicant’s full legal name as it appears on their driver’s license or passport.

Required Documents
Canadian students who have not completed university-level coursework after high school graduation are considered first-year students.
1. Send in your official academic records.
- One copy at the time of your application.
- A final, official government-issued transcript after completion of high school.
- Your marks will be converted to GPA and must meet our admissions standards.
2. Submit proof of English language proficiency
- Applicants who did not complete their prior education in English must submit proof of English language proficiency in accordance with international admission requirements.
3. Complete your Application for Form I-20 and Certification of Financial Responsibility and supporting financial documents.
4. Photocopy the passport page containing your personal information.
- This will be used to create your Form I-20.

On average, it can take up to 14 business days to reach certain destinations in Canada. When applying to Minot State, take mailing time of documents into consideration and plan ahead.
Notification of application status
You will receive an email about your admission status within two weeks after submitting all your required documents. Full acceptance is not granted until all requirements are met.
Canadian students who have previously attended a college or university and have completed at least 24 semester hours are considered transfer students.
If you are transferring fewer than 24 semester hours of college or university credit, you will need to submit your academic records from your post-secondary AND secondary institutions for admission. See the First-year student tab above for more information.
1. Have your transcripts sent from all colleges or universities you’ve attended.
- Transcripts must be official and issued directly from the college or university to Minot State University. If you have possession of the transcript, it must be in the original unopened envelope from the issuing school. Opening a transcript envelope will make it unofficial.
- Students transferring from a Canadian non-English speaking university must submit an official transcript reflecting all courses attempted and grades received.
- Your transcripts will need to be evaluated by World Education Services (WES), Education Credential Evaluators (ECE), or American Education Research Corporation (AERC).
- You must also provide an English-translated copy of the institution’s catalog or a copy of the course description or course syllabi from the catalog to aid evaluation of transfer credit. Since this evaluation can be lengthy, please be aware that evaluation results may not be available prior to your arrival and registration at Minot State.
- Your marks will be converted to GPA and must meet our admissions standards.
2. Submit proof of English language proficiency
- Applicants who did not complete their prior education in English must submit proof of English language proficiency in accordance with international admission requirements.
3. Complete your Application for Form I-20 and Certification of Financial Responsibility and supporting financial documents.
4. Submit your Transfer Clearance Form if transferring from a United States college or university.
- You must submit a transfer form signed by you and the international coordinator at your current United State’s school, Please fax the form to the Minot State Office of International Programs at 701-858-3888.
5. Photocopy the passport page containing your personal information.
- This will be used to create your Form I-20.

International students are not eligible for U.S. federal or state need-based financial assistance. Therefore, certification of adequate financial support to meet the needs during the period of enrollment at MSU is required of all international non-immigrant applicants. Note: If admitted, you will be required to complete the Application for Form I-20 and Certification of Finances before an I-20 can be issued.
