Pillar Three: Academic Experience – Be Empowered
Goal: We will deliver exceptional, student-centered academic experiences that empower graduates for lifelong learning and meaningful careers.
Objective: Progress will be reflected in strong student success outcomes, high-quality and relevant programs, consistent teaching excellence, and participation in applied learning.
At MSU, we value a learning environment where students explore ideas, take intellectual risks, and grow. Our academic experience is rigorous, relevant, and student-centered, empowering students to think critically, apply knowledge, and contribute to a changing world.
We acknowledge that challenges related to advising, currency of programs, and resources require an intentional academic strategy. In response, we will focus our efforts on high-quality teaching, academic programs, and student experiences. Small classes and engaged faculty will create applied learning opportunities that prepare students for lifelong success.
We will:
- Support and retain students by addressing placement, advising, and scheduling.
- Emphasize critical thinking and meaningful learning through rigorous and relevant curricula.
- Ensure quality and alignment with workforce and community needs by focusing and strengthening academic offerings.
- Strengthen teaching through professional development, effective course design, and consistency across instructional modalities.
- Connect learning to real world practice through applied learning, undergraduate research, and interdisciplinary experiences.
- Improve faculty morale by providing adequate time and resources for scholarship and professional growth.
- Prepare students and faculty for an evolving world by addressing the risks and opportunities of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence.
In short: We will empower students through exceptional learning experiences that prepare them for life, leadership, work, and service.
