Strategic Plan

Action Items

Action items are the specific activities, projects, and initiatives that help Minot State University achieve the goals outlined in the Strategic Plan.

Faculty, staff, and departments are encouraged to submit action items that align with the university's strategic priorities--the bulleted list associated with each pillar.

Before beginning the submission form, please review the Strategic Plan pillars and initiatives. Every action item must align with one of the 20 strategic initiatives identified within the three Strategic Plan pillars:

  • Pillar One: Community – Belong
  • Pillar Two: Opportunity – Be Inspired
  • Pillar Three: Academic Experience – Be Empowered

Each pillar contains strategic initiatives that guide the university's work. When submitting an action item, you will be asked to identify the specific strategic initiative your work supports. Action items should clearly demonstrate how they contribute to advancing one of the university's strategic priorities.

Frequently Asked Questions

Departments, offices, and units may submit multiple action items. However, we encourage each area to focus on meaningful activities that have a clear connection to the Strategic Plan rather than submitting a large number of smaller tasks.

At a minimum, every area is encouraged to submit at least one action item aligned with one of the university's strategic initiatives.

Submitted action items will be incorporated into the university's strategic planning dashboard, creating a transparent record of how departments and units are advancing the Strategic Plan.

The Strategic Planning Committee (SPC) will review submitted action items to:

  • Evaluate alignment with the Strategic Plan and strategic initiatives
  • Review anticipated resource needs
  • Monitor implementation progress and intended outcomes
  • Develop summaries and recommendations for President's Staff

President's Staff will encourage ongoing participation in strategic planning efforts and review recommendations from SPC as part of university planning and resource allocation processes.

Progress updates, accomplishments, and success stories will be shared regularly with the campus community, and selected stories may be highlighted through University Communications.

In addition, high-level strategic outcomes will be assessed, tracked, and reported annually to demonstrate progress toward achieving the goals outlined in the Minot State University Strategic Plan.

Strategic planning is an ongoing process, and action items should be updated as work progresses.

To edit an existing action item:

  • Navigate to the Strategic Planning Dashboard.
  • Locate your action item.
  • Select the Edit link associated with the action item.
  • Update information as needed and save your changes.

Examples of updates include:

  • Changing the Stage of Development (Not Started, In Progress, Ongoing, or Complete)
  • Adding Progress Notes to document accomplishments, milestones, challenges, or next steps
  • Revising anticipated completion dates
  • Updating resource needs
  • Modifying descriptions or outcomes as the project evolves

Regular updates help the university accurately track progress toward Strategic Plan goals and highlight accomplishments across campus.

If an action item was submitted in error, duplicated, or is no longer relevant, please contact the Strategic Planning Committee for assistance.

To ensure the accuracy and integrity of university strategic planning records, action items cannot be deleted directly by submitters.

If you are unsure whether an existing activity, project, or initiative aligns with the Strategic Plan, please contact the Strategic Planning Committee. Committee members are available to help identify connections between your work and the university's strategic priorities.
