Kali Heyen is an Assistant Professor of Social Work at Minot State University at the NDSU program location in Fargo, ND. Kali spent 12 years working in child welfare in North Dakota, specifically in the foster care system, first as a case manager and then as a treatment foster care supervisor. She has spent many years as a parent education instructor for both NDSU Extension and local school districts. Her greatest areas of experience and interest include child welfare, childhood trauma, parenting education, blended family dynamics, suicide prevention and intervention, community action, policy and politics, LGBT equality, and criminal justice reform.

Kali lives in a small rural town in North Dakota with her husband and two sons. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, reading, gardening, raising animals on the family farm, spending time at the lake, watching football, and attending her kids’ activities.
