KMSU Managers are paid year-long positions for students to gain skills coordinating our student-run media efforts. Applications open every spring for the six available positions, and students are interviewed by faculty and staff of the Professional Communication Department. Selected students serve a year-long term the following school year.
KMSU Managers do not have to be Professional Communication majors, but it is recommended applicants become involved in KMSU through COMM 475 or COMM 474 before applying for a manager role.
The KMSU Manager roles are as follows:
The Sales Manager and Marketing Manager are responsible for updating our Underwriters for MSU Inside/Out and working with companies for future partnerships to help sponsor the show.
The Public Relations Manager and Events Planning Manager are responsible for networking with other organizations on campus (MSU Life, Wellness Center, campus clubs) to make sure students, faculty, and staff are aware of who we are and what we do. These managers plan, coordinate, and execute at least one event for the campus community per school year (e.g., Talent Show). Although this event is planned by these managers, it is worked by all of the managers, advisors of KMSU, and technical supervisor.
- This is great for students who have connections with everyone on campus, a go-getter, works well with deadlines, can take abstract plans and see them through.
The Social Media Manager has access to all of our social media accounts. This includes Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube. Student will be responsible for monitoring the Instagram and Facebook for comments, and generating ideas for social media content. It’s recommended this manager takes COMM 474 prior to and during your year as manager.
- Good for those who are detail oriented, punctual, and familiar with SEO and best practices of social media strategy.
The Radio Manager oversees the KMSU radio station. They make sure the radio is up and working, that songs/playlists are playing, and any other issues that may arise from the radio. Radio Manager can draw on the expertise of the technical supervisor and graduate assistant.
