Print Day in May(pril) returns

MINOT, N.D. – On Friday, April 25, and Saturday, April 26, Minot State University’s Flat Tail Press will be joining a celebration of printmaking. Minot State University students, faculty, alumni, and community members will join an event that brings together printmakers from around the world, known as Print Day in May.

In 2007, the Printmakers at Monterey Peninsula College in California began devoting the first Saturday in May to creating prints. It has since become a worldwide event, with people joining in from multiple countries on five continents.

“Print Day in May is a wonderful community event, but it often falls during the busiest time of year for students and faculty (the week before finals),” said Ryan Stander, professor of art and co-director of Flat Tail Press. “So, we decided to push it back a week and are calling it Print Day in May(pril).”

Whether they are in the studio every day or rarely carve out time to make a print, Minot printmakers are excited to work alongside each other in a collaborative, creative space. Print day in May(pril) is a celebration of community and the enjoyment that comes from making and sharing art.

“Printing in a bustling studio during this event reminds MSU students, faculty, and alumni alike of the fun that comes from reconnecting with the art community in Minot,” Allie Nelson, graduate of the Minot State art program and coordinator of Print Day in May(pril) 2025, added.

Beginning on Friday afternoon, April 25, and running through Saturday, April 26, the students, faculty, and alumni will be printing using several printing processes, including screen printing and lithography. Printing is expected to take place from 4 to 9 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday in Room 243 on the second floor of Hartnett Hall. All are invited to attend and learn more about the different printing processes and help the participants with their creations. For more information, contact Ryan Stander by EMAIL.
