Minot State Criminal Justice Club event to feature Armstrong
MINOT, N.D. – Minot State University’s Criminal Justice Club invites the public to an exclusive speaker event with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agent John Armstrong on Tuesday, March 25.
The speaker event is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at Ann Nicole Nelson Hall and is free and open to the public.
“We are excited to welcome HSI Agent Armstrong as our speaker. His extensive experience in both military service and federal law enforcement will provide valuable insights for our Criminal Justice students,” said Maria Kerzmann, MSU associate professor in criminal justice. “His journey from the U.S. Army Infantry to HIS demonstrates the diverse career opportunities within the field. By opening this event to the public, we hope to not only inspire future professionals but also educate the community on the critical role HSI plays in combating transnational crime, including human trafficking, drug smuggling, and cybercrime. Additionally, we are pleased to offer POST Continuing Education Units for law enforcement professionals attending this event.”
Armstrong served on active duty in the U.S. Army Infantry from 2009 to 2014, where he was assigned to the 173rd Airborne Brigade based in Italy and deployed to Afghanistan for combat operations in 2012. After his military service, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Texas A&M University in 2018.
In October 2021, he graduated from the Homeland Security Investigations Academy at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) in Glynco, Georgia. HSI, a division of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), is responsible for investigating transnational crimes such as human trafficking, drug smuggling, cybercrime, and financial crimes.
Following his training, he served with HSI Los Angeles (LAX) from October 2021 to June 2024, including time with the HSI LA Special Response Team (SRT) Green Team from October 2023 to June 2024. In June 2024, he transitioned to his current role with HSI Minot.
Individuals can use the event to earn continuing education credits, as it is approved for POST CEUs totaling one and two credits.
