Data scientist Graves highlights Minot State AI and Data Summit
MINOT, N.D. – The Minot State Department of Math, Data, and Technology is pleased to announce Silicon Valley data scientist Mark Graves will give a keynote address at the department’s AI and Data Summit on April 29.
The AI and Data Summit, which will take place at the MSU Student Center Conference Center, will focus on AI’s impact on healthcare. The summit will have two sessions: early events for the MSU campus and late events open to the public.
The Summit will begin with an interdisciplinary panel on AI and data, “How is AI and data science impacting your discipline?” at 2 p.m. Graves is scheduled to give his first keynote, “AI, Ethics, and Healthcare,” at 3:15 p.m., followed by MSU student’s poster session at 4:15 p.m.
The community event will start at 6 p.m. with coffee and cookies. Graves will deliver his community address, “Future of AI: Hopes, Fears, and Compassion,” at 6:30 p.m., and the open Q&A will begin at 7:30 p.m.
“Artificial intelligence is beginning to impact our world as never before, including healthcare,” said Daren Erisman, MSU assistant professor of data science. “All of us will be affected as these AI tools diagnose diseases, create personalized treatment plans, assist in surgeries, and streamline administrative tasks. While beneficial, using artificial intelligence also challenges data privacy, equity, and trust in this new technology.
“This first AI and Data Summit seeks to address these critical issues. The keynote speaker, Dr. Mark Graves, holds a Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Michigan, focusing on artificial intelligence. He has worked with Silicon startups and teaches AI and ethics.”
Graves has over 20 years of experience including the Human Genome Project at Baylor College of Medicine and startups related to healthcare.
"Rather than only trying to prevent harms from technology, a constructive approach to compassionate AI can benefit society and define a target for AI development that also addresses concerns about how AI might behave in the future.,” Graves said. “All those interested in how artificial intelligence is shaping healthcare and those just trying to understand the trajectory AI for our future will benefit from this summit. Be part of the conversation that shapes the next wave of innovation with integrity.”
Parking is free and available in the north lot of the MSU Student Center. For more information or questions, contact Erisman by EMAIL. The summit was funded by a Minot State Cultural and Intellectual Engagement Council grant.
