Minot State celebrates Welcome Week

MINOT, N.D. – As a new week begins, the excitement on Minot State’s campus grows.

Students are moving in, picking up University IDs, purchasing textbooks, and scouting out all the possibilities for the upcoming year. With the school year kicking off Tuesday, Aug. 23, opportunities for connection are in high supply.

“Campus is buzzing once again with new and returning students moving into the residence halls, seeking out classrooms, and tossing frisbees on the lawn,” said Aaron Hughes, student activities coordinator. “We are eager to kick off another great academic year with a variety of engaging social events to help break the ice, calm the nerves, and jump start the lifelong friendships for students across campus.”

Fall 2022 Welcome Week officially began Sunday night with RecFest on the Wellness Center Lawn and is followed by a full day of activities — including new student orientation, new student convocation, and a concert on the Old Main Lawn — on Monday, Aug. 22.

“For the next few weeks, MSU Life will be offering back-to-back events that appeal to a wide array of student interests,” said Hughes. “And the best part? It’s all free with a student ID.”

The rest of the week will feature events such as free lunches, a club fair, motivational speaker Bob Upgren, campfires in the Quad, Welcome Bingo, hypnotist Evan Gambardella, and an outdoor movie at the Herb Parker Stadium.

“Whether you’re an incoming freshman or a junior looking to branch out, we encourage all students to get involved, to try something new, and to take in all that Welcome Week has to offer,” said Hughes. “College is more than attending classes and acing tests — it’s about making connections.”
