Minot State begins Summer Theatre revitalization fundraising project
MINOT, N.D. – Minot State University announced Monday a project to revitalize the MSU Summer Theatre complex. The total renovation and expansion is slated to begin after the 55th season in 2020.
The project will feature a number of improvements to the facility to enhance the comfort and convenience of audiences.
“MSU Summer Theatre is a true gem in our community, something that thousands of folks look forward to each summer,” said Rick Hedberg, vice president for advancement. “The complex is definitely showing its age and is in need of renovation. We are excited about the potential changes as it will make the experience better for the crew and attendees.”
The amphitheater on the north end of Minot State’s campus drew nearly 10,000 spectators for its summer program in 2018 and has sold out numerous shows during its first two programs in 2019.
The Theatre's third show of the season, "Big Fish," runs July 10-15. All performances begin at 8:30 p.m. with the box office open at 7:30 p.m. Purchase tickets online to avoid any lines at www.MSUSummerTheatre.com.
The updates include the complete relocation of the main restrooms from the upper level of the amphitheater to the lower/ground level of the complex. The concession stand will also be relocated to the ground level, which will take on a plaza-like appearance. Enhancement and expansion of the cast dressing rooms and the box office/ticketing area are being planned, along with the addition of a canopy covering the center stage.
“After the successful lights and sound upgrades in the last two years, it is time to work on the structure of Summer Theatre itself. The necessary upgrade will not only improve vital functions, but will also update and beautify the building itself without losing the iconic look which is Summer Theatre,” Chad Gifford, MSU Summer Theatre artistic director, said. “I hope that everyone will want to be a part of this renovation project as we prepare to move MSU Summer Theatre into the next fifty years of great theater up on the hill.”
Donors to the renovation project will be identified on a permanent recognition board that will be prominently displayed at the amphitheater. Three levels of gifts will include individual recognition including:
- Friend of the Theatre (up to $999)
- Director ($1,000 - $4,999)
- Producer ($5,000+)
Each level will earn individual donor wall recognition. Director level will also receive three complimentary season tickets for three seasons and Producer level will receive six complimentary tickets for three seasons. Gifts may be pledged over three years.
In addition to the three levels, opportunities for naming rights are available for the various aspects of the project.
The project is consistent with the overall vision for Summer Theatre, which is “to create a thriving, vibrant community by providing a safe, accessible, and aesthetically pleasing environment that promotes and supports the performing arts, while enhancing the quality of life for our patrons.”
