Bear, Groethe presentations a part of Northwest Arts Center Grand Opening
MINOT, N.D. – As part of the new Northwest Arts Center and Walter Piehl Gallery dedication on April 19, Minot State University students, faculty and staff, as well as the general public are invited to the Aleshire Theatre at 9:30 a.m. or 11 a.m. for an informal performance and presentation by Keith Bear and D.W. Groethe. Both artists share and represent unique cultural perspectives as storytellers, poets, and musicians.
D.W. Groethe was born and raised in western North Dakota where he learned to play the guitar. As a natural extension of his music, his poetry is filled with anecdotal humor and the wisdom of cowboy life. D.W. is a regular at the Western Folklife Center’s National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, Nev. He has performed at the Kennedy Center, National Folk Festivals, and the Library of Congress.
Keith Bear is a Mandan-Hidatsa storyteller and musician /educator who has performed extensively throughout the United States and Europe. Keith weaves a magic of story, song, history, and personal reflection that enchants audiences of all ages. Reflecting the dignity and spiritual wisdom of his ancestors, he inspires reverence for the earth and all our relatives, gratitude for the diversity of the human experience, and appreciation of the beauty of traditional Native songs and stories, many of which have been shared for hundreds of years.
During each session, the audience will have the opportunity for questions at the end of each presentation.
