SGA pledges to help end campus sexual assault

On Oct. 6, Minot State University Student Government Association took the “It’s On Us” pledge. SGA challenges all other campus clubs and organizations, as well as inviting all MSU students, to take the pledge. The It’s On Us campaign was recently launched by President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden in partnership with leaders from universities, media companies and sports groups across the country, with the goal of eradicating sexual assault on campuses nationwide.

“It’s important that SGA members not only support this initiative but understand the principles of the campaign and live by them,” said Marley Kotylak, SGA president. “By launching this campaign at MSU and challenging all of our clubs and organizations, we can reach out to all of our campus leaders and start a cultural movement.”

SGA is the governing body for Minot State students and functions as the chief law and policymaking organization for the student body.

To date, groups at more than 200 universities nationwide have joined the It’s On Us campaign. SGA also plans to team up with other campus entities, including Greek Life and the Keep U Safe program, to educate students and spread the word.  A marketing campaign and pledge drive are in the works for this November.
