Math Placement Exam Information

A credit bearing college math course (Math 103 or higher) is required as part of Minot State's General Education curriculum. *Meeting one of the following requirements will allow you to enroll directly into a credit bearing math course. 

ACCUPLACER

  • I have an ACCUPLACER Next Gen Advanced Algebra score of 237 or higher.
  • I have an ACCUPLACER Elementary Algebra score of 76 or higher.
  • I have an ACCUPLACER College Level Math score of 50 or higher.

ACT **

  • I have a Math ACT subscore of 21 or higher.

SAT **

  • I have a SAT Math subscore of
    • 550 or higher (took exam after March 2016)
    • 520 or higher (took exam prior to March 2016)

Other

  • I successfully completed a credit bearing college math course through one of the following: AP-Advanced Placement, Dual Credit, or Transfer Course. Confirm final, official transcript/test score has been received by Minot State.

**Make sure you have sent ALL of your ACT/SAT scores to Minot State as your highest subscore will be used for placement purposes.


What if I do not meet one of the above criteria?

  • take a placement exam (strongly encouraged), or
  • enroll in a developmental math course (no college credit), or
  • enroll in the credit bearing math AND the required co-requisite lab

*Please note: The following majors require a higher level math course. If you do not place directly into the required math course for your major, you will be contacted by an orientation team member who will provide information about the placement exam.
