English Placement Exam Information

College Composition I (ENGL 110) is required as part of Minot State's General Education curriculum. Meeting one of the following requirements will allow you to enroll directly into ENGL 110.

ACCUPLACER

I have an ACCUPLACER Next Gen Writing score of 256 or higher.
I have an ACCUPLACER WritePlacer score of 5 or higher.

ACT *

I have a ACT English subscore of 18 or higher.

SAT *

I have a SAT Evidence Based Reading and Writing subscore of
- 490 or higher (took exam after September 2018)
- 480 or higher (took exam between March 2016 and September 2018)

Other

I successfully completed ENGL 110 through one of the following: AP-Advanced Placement, Dual Credit, or Transfer Course. Confirm final, official transcript/test score has been received by Minot State.

*Make sure you have sent ALL of your ACT/SAT scores to Minot State as your highest subscore will be used for placement purposes.

What if I do not meet one of the above criteria?

take a placement exam (strongly encouraged), or
enroll in a developmental English course (no college credit)
