Explore Spain and Morocco!
This program will allow students to explore Spanish cultural history, art, and architecture, and combine the excitement of visiting new sites, meeting new people, and tasting new foods. Throughout the tour, participants will explore the rich and diverse Spanish and Moorish culture while enjoying a variety of new and exciting experiences.

Academic Course Work Participants of this study tour are required to be enrolled in Humanities 496: Spanish and Moorish Culture (3 credits.) The tour will be led by Dr. Andrea Donovan, Assistant Professor of Art History and Humanities, who specializes in European art and architectural history.

Please note: In order to be eligible for summer term financial aid, students must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 summer credits. At least 3 of these credits must be from the course listed above. Students who wish to enroll in additional summer coursework in association with the tour may make arrangements with the faculty leader.

Course Audits: Community members may choose to audit coursework at 50% tuition rate. Financial Aid is not available for audited courses, and grades will not appear on transcripts.

Tour Highlights
The tour itinerary will be updated as specific activities are scheduled. Itinerary is subject to change.

Madrid, Spain’s capital, is a vibrant city filled with impressive art and architecture, including the Prado, a premier European art museum, the Plaza de Oriente (photo), and the Palacio Real. Small cafés and markets line the streets to give visitors a chance to sample local cuisine and experience the atmosphere of old Madrid.

Spain’s only river port, Seville, is home to the impressive Plaza de Toros, (below) one of Spain’s oldest and largest bull rings, the Barrio de Santa Cruz, and the Moorish Alcázar. This stop includes a visit to the sunny coastal town of Costa del Sol.

An excursion to Morocco (above) will include the quaint village of Tetouan, where visitors can enter a world of snake charmers and mosques. This serene North African village includes a tour through the local spice shop.

Barcelona: this artistic and lively city is the capital of the Catalonia region of Spain. Visit the colorful and expressionistic architecture of Antonio Gaudí (right), the Magic Fountain and the Olympic site at Montjuïc, and the 14th century Barrio Gótico which includes the stunning Barcelona Cathedral.

Program Fees
The program fee covers: round-trip airfare and transfers, breakfast and dinner daily, hotels (double and triple occupancy), entrance fees, guided sightseeing and walking tours, and a 24-hour on-site Tour Director. Items not included: lunches, optional excursions, transportation for free-time activities, departure fees (i.e. airline luggage fees) and customary gratuities.

A typical day will involve sightseeing and local excursion starting early in the morning and lasting all day. The tour will be very fast paced and rigorous so that you get the most of your time abroad.

*Program price is locked until October 31st. Applicants enrolled after that date might be required to pay slightly higher program fee due to rate fluctuations in hotel, airfare and transportation rates. However, you should not be alarmed by this statement; rate increases are typically not significant. Applicants above 22 years of age add $340 to cover non-student rates for museums and other tourist sites.

Payment Deadlines:

• $650 due with the Application

• : $3,415 due

: Remaining balance due

Late Payments:

• If a payment is received 7 days late, a penalty of $125 will be incurred.
• If a payment is received 30 business days or more after the payment due date, your application will be considered withdrawn and you will be responsible for any cancellation penalties.
• If for any reason your payment cannot be processed, a fee of $50 will be incurred, plus the late payment penalty, if applicable.

Payment Policies:

• Under no circumstances will a student be allowed to depart on the program unless the program fees are paid in full.
• MSU is not responsible for delays caused by late passport applications, late visa applications or visa denials. Any additional costs incurred for such reasons will be the responsibility of the participant.
• Transportation Deviation Fees: Transportation will be arranged from Minot. Any deviations or special requests (such as early departure or late returns) will incur a $75 booking fee, in addition to any fees charged by the airlines.

Cancellation & Refunds
Withdrawal from the program is effective on the date that written notification is received by MSU’s Office of International Programs, and any airline tickets that have been issued on your behalf have been returned.

Please Note:
• • If you withdraw from the program after your flights are booked, you will be responsible for airline cancellation charges in addition to the above cancellation fees.
  • MSU will not alter its payment and/or cancellation policies for any reason.
  • In the unlikely event that MSU is forced to cancel a program or you are not fully accepted into the program, all payments will be refunded, including your initial deposit.

Financial Aid can be applied to cover study tour fees, so students might want to consider the possibility of obtaining Financial Aid (generally including loans) to assist in funding their program.
