Oberg Foundation awards Minot State student
The Brady Oberg Legacy Foundation has selected a Minot State University student majoring in psychology as the 2026-27 recipient of the Brady Oberg Legacy Scholarship. The scholarship provides a stipend ($5,000) intended to assist an individual with the completion of their chosen degree in the mental health care field.
To raise awareness of the invisible injuries of war, the recipient will remain anonymous.
Established in 2015, the Brady Oberg Legacy Foundation honors Brady Oberg, from Ulen, Minnesota, who joined the United States Army as an infantryman (11B) in 2009. He was deployed to Afghanistan and earned the Army Commendation Medal for saving four of his brothers in arms. The foundation raises awareness for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), as Oberg took his own life in 2015, the works to inform the public, especially spouses and families, about the signs and effects of PTSD and how to locate assistance/treatment for PTSD.
The scholarship is awarded to a combat veteran or honorably discharged service member pursuing a degree in addiction studies, psychology, or social work.
Along with the scholarship, the Brady Oberg Legacy Foundation sponsors multiple events and retreats for combat veterans, providing outdoor and recreational activities that allow combat veterans to enjoy those activities in the company of others with like experiences.
