By Michael Linnell

MINOT, N.D. – The Minot State University Military Resource Center will host a free screening of Kevin Hines's “Suicide: The Ripple Effect” with a question-and-answer discussion to follow on Tuesday, Sept. 24, as part of September’s Suicide Prevention Month events.

The screening and Q&A will take place in Ann Nicole Nelson Hall in MSU’s Old Main starting at 7 pm. There will be local and regional service providers on hand at Old Main’s second-floor lobby beginning at begin at 6 p.m., including Fargo Regional VA representatives, the Mobile Vet Center, and community veteran service providers. Parking is available in The Loop in front of Old Main.

The Minot area community and campus event is sponsored by the Department of Veterans Affairs in partnership with ND Cares and the MSU Military Resource Center. The screening, Q&A, and services provided are all free and open to the public.

“The film opened my eyes to the complexity and far-reaching effects of suicide,” said Andy Heitkamp, MSU Military Resource Center director. “It got me started down the educational path to learning more about prevention/intervention and available treatments for suicidal individuals as well as other mental health diseases.”

According to its WEBSITE, “Suicide: The Ripple Effect” is a feature-length documentary film and movement focusing on the devastating effects of suicide and the tremendous positive ripple effects of advocacy, inspiration, and hope that are helping millions heal and stay alive. The film made its worldwide premiere in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on Feb. 23, 2018.
