Minot State names Brekhus as director of alumni engagement

MINOT, N.D. – Minot State University is pleased to announce 2012 graduate Courtenay Brekhus has been named the University’s director of alumni engagement.

Brekhus, who earned degrees in athletic training and corporate fitness, has served as a wellness specialist and assistant director for the Minot State Wellness Center for the past 11 years. She will begin her duties as director of alumni engagement on June 21.

“Minot State has been my home for the past 16 years. I’m grateful for all MSU has done for me, and I’m honored for the opportunity to give back to the campus and community. Minot State is a family, so I look forward to building lasting relationships with our alumni and friends,” said Brekhus.

Along with her work in the Wellness Center, Brekhus has been an adjunct instructor for the past eight years in the teacher education and kinesiology department. She is the current chair for the MSUWell Committee and has been for the past 10 years, is a past senator for MSU’s Staff Senate, and is the March 2017 winner for the Minot State High Five Award.

“We are excited to have Courtenay joining our team,” said Rick Hedberg, MSU vice president for advancement. “She’s been so willing to get involved in various activities and committees since starting in the Wellness Center. Courtenay’s been a real asset to the campus, and I know our alumni and friends will enjoy engaging with her in her new role in the alumni office.”

A native of Burlington, Brekhus was a student at Minot State from 2007 to 2012 before taking a full-time position at the MSU Wellness Center. While working, she earned a Master of Science degree in kinesiology in 2018 from A.T. Still University.

Brekhus resides in Minot with her husband, Dakota, and her three daughters.
