MACIV hosts delegation from Indonesia

MINOT, N.D. – The Minot Area Council for International Visitors (MACIV) is hosting a delegation from Indonesia as part of an event called “Good Governance for Newly Elected Officials.”

The officials are invited to the United States under the auspices of the Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program. Their national program is arranged by CRDF Global with their local program arranged by MACIV.

The officials will be in Minot and Northwest North Dakota from Feb. 17-22. The Minot area segment of their program will focus on issues of Native American sovereignty and governance. The visitors will meet with the chairs and other officials of the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation and the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa in New Town and Belcourt respectively. They will also spend a day in Bismarck exploring other aspects of tribal affairs, including cooperative work with the North Dakota Heritage Center. In Minot, both mayor Shaun Sipma and city manager Tom Barry will meet with the visitors to explore city governance issues.

"This is the 80th anniversary of the International Visitor Leadership Program," said Minot State Professor of History and MACIV executive director Joseph Jastrzembski. "It is the hard work of citizen diplomats in communities all over the United States that contribute to the forming of peaceful and cooperative relationships with emerging leaders from all over the world. We are proud that Minot and the Minot region are a part of this important foreign policy initiative.”

Scheduled to attend the five-day event is Hermince Anggelia Augstinne, head, cooperation section and innovation service, population and civil registration office of the South Sumatera Provincial Government; Muhammad Giri Ramanda Nazaputra Kiemas, chairman, Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle, South Sumatra Chapter; Anjas Rusli Notta, head of sub district, South Sukamuju District; Ahmad Dawami Ragil Saputro, regent, Madiun Regency; Syamsari Syamsuddin Sese, regent, Takalar Regent Office; Syaiful Arifin Tawidi, chairman, Medan Peduli.
