Grant Planning and Submission Deadlines
The following timeline should be considered when preparing a grant for submission. Please contact the Office of Sponsored Programs for assistance with this process. Early and frequent communication is key to a smooth process.
- Draft your grant proposal idea.
- Find a funding opportunity through Atom Grants, Grants.gov, other sources, or by asking OSP.
- Inform OSP of your grant writing plans as soon as possible, preferably at least one month prior to submission.
- Write your proposal and prepare a budget. Allow plenty of time and start early. A minimum of thirty (30) days from start to finish is a reasonable time frame.
- Complete the required MSU pre-approval process. Begin this process 10 business days before the submission deadline. A finalized budget and abstract are required for this process.
- Seek feedback approximately one to two weeks prior to the submission deadline.
- Finalize your proposal.
- Prepare the proposal for submission. At least 48 hours (two business days) prior to the submission deadline, coordinate with OSP to compile all final documents for grant submission.
- Coordinate with OSP for the grant submission process. Preferably, grants are submitted one business day prior to the listed due date. This allows time for technology glitches or unforeseen issues.
