Math Placement Policies

Placement information for each mathematics course is provided below. Students must meet one (not all) of the placement measures listed to register for a course. ACCUPLACER information is also provided. Please contact the Department of Math, Data, and Technology with questions. 

Offered Online Only

Recommended* placement scores for ASC 92:

  • ACT Math Score: 16 - 18
  • SAT Math Score: 430 or Higher
  • Next Gen ACCUPLACER Advanced Algebra: 221 - 230
  • ALEKS PPL: 15 or Higher

No prerequisite course

Additional courses that can be taken after completing this course: 

  • ASC 93 – Intermediate Algebra
  • MATH 103 - College Algebra with co-requisite lab MATH 103L
  • MATH 110 - Mathematics in Society with co-requisite lab MATH 110L
  • MATH 210 - Elementary Statistics with co-requisite lab MATH 210L

* These scores are recommendations only. ASC 92 can be taken with a lower (or no) placement score than those recommended above. However, Minot State recommends students scoring below these scores utilize the ALEKS PPL software prior to registering for their first math course. ALEKS PPL provides a learning experience that adapts to your current abilities and provides you an opportunity to refresh mathematics skills you may have learned in high school through the use of videos, examples and practice problems.

  • Students may register for ALEKS PPL using code 4WRF9-RPGYW. The cost is $25 for one year of access.

The ACCUPLACER is an untimed, computerized test that allows universities to evaluate your skills in certain areas, and place you into appropriate courses. Minot State uses the ACCUPLACER in English and math. Test results and placement information are available immediately upon completion of the test.
