Native American Cultural Awareness Center vintage jewelry silent auction

MINOT, N.D. – Minot State University’s Native American Cultural Awareness Center will host a silent auction at the Minot State Dome during the Spring Honor Dance and Powwow Celebration.

The auction will run from Friday, April 26, starting at 4 p.m. until Saturday, April 27, at 7 p.m.

The Native American Cultural Awareness Center received a few collections from a community member including gifts of vintage jewelry, pottery, and sculptures — most are from the southwest tribes. The gift was intended to serve as a fundraiser for the annual Spring Honor Dance & Powwow Celebration where the Center honors the graduates each year. The Native American Cultural Awareness Center partnered up with MSU Professor of Art Bill Harbort’s ART 370: Professional Practices class, who photographed all the items, helped research the fair market value (FMV), and set up the auction.

“The Native American Cultural Awareness Center will continue to work with MSU art majors to host another auction in 2025, 2026, and 2027, making this a real-life learning lab opportunity at Minot State University,” said Annette Mennem, director, Native American Cultural Awareness Center.

There are 42 items to auction including necklaces, necklace and earring sets, and earrings. This collection was started in the 1970s. The auction details and photos of some of the auction items can be found on the Center’s Facebook PAGE.
