Art department to offer Ceramics Open Studio

MINOT, N.D. – The Minot State University art department will offer Ceramics Open Studio for five weeks in February and March, offering classes for all levels of expertise in clay.

The sessions are from 6-8:30 p.m. in the ceramics studio in Pioneer Hall.

“I have had such fun in Minot States Ceramics Open Studio classes,” said Jes Diebert, a community member who has attended past open studios. “The teaching expertise allows a beginner to have successful projects and can also challenge the advanced student. I have taken many kinds, and they let their creativity loose. I highly recommend it for everyone.”

Sessions include: Basic Hand-building Techniques, Basic Throwing Techniques, Slip-casting Techniques, and Glazing Techniques. The classes are open to anyone interested in ceramics, but outside classes, depending on the individual’s needs, can be arranged with independent classes available. To better organize these sessions, instruction has been planned based on different areas of ceramic production and are limited to the first 15 registrants.

The per-session price is $20 (adults), $10 (with MSU ID), $10 (students), and $5 (children under 12). An adult must accompany children under 12. The proceeds from the Open Studio fund scholarships for ceramics students, and this semester, the students are earning scholarships to attend the National Council of Educators in the Ceramic Arts in Minneapolis.
