Admissions Requirements

We require a cumulative high school grade point average of 2.5 or higher (4.0 scale).

If you do not meet these minimum guidelines, you will still be considered for admission if there is evidence in your academic record demonstrating a high probability of success.

Minot State is test-optional and does not require ACT/SAT test scores for admission. We rely on your high school grade point average (GPA) and core coursework to make admission decisions.

Although ACT/SAT test scores are not required for admission, you may elect to send your test scores if you feel they provide a more complete representation of your academic abilities.

Additionally, Math and English course placement is determined based on submitted ACT/SAT scores. Some scholarships and awards also use test scores to select recipients and determine award amounts.

Complete the following 13 high school core courses:

  • 4 units of English
  • 3 units of mathematics (at the level of Algebra 1 and above)
  • 3 units of laboratory science
  • 3 units of social science

If you do not meet these minimum guidelines, you will still be considered for admission if there is evidence in your academic record demonstrating a high probability of success.

High School Applicants

  • If you are currently attending, have your school submit your in-progress high school transcript.
  • After high school graduation, have your school send your final, official high school transcript.
  • If you took dual credit classes or earned credits from another university, submit your official transcripts from those institutions.
    • If you took classes from another North Dakota University System (NDUS) institution, it is not necessary to request your transcript. Minot State is able to retrieve the transcript at no charge to you.
    • If you took classes from an institution outside the NDUS, have that school send your official transcript.

Home Educated Applicants

  • The specific list of classes you completed, identified and/or separated by class levels. We may request a course syllabus or detailed description of your course content.
  • Clear identification of the courses that meet the North Dakota University System College Preparatory Requirements.
  • A key that explains your grading system.
  • The date of your graduation/completion for your plan of study.
  • A signature from your parent/instructor.
  • Identification of any private or public high schools you attended.
  • A diploma/certificate issued by the local school district you live in, if that district provides such documentation.

GED Applicants

  • If you took the GED in 2014 or later, you must have a GED score of 145 on each subset (four exams).
  • If you took the GED prior to 2014, all GED subset scores must be at least 410 with an overall score of 500 or higher for admission.
