From Nordic Waffles to the Super Bowl

“I work at United Community Bank and when I asked for the days off my co-workers were like ‘you actually get to go to the Super Bowl? That’s when I realized how cool it is and that I get to go and be aware of what is happening.”

MINOT, N.D. – The biggest game in the NFL season. A stadium filled with thousands of fans and millions more are watching at home. You could say it’s a big deal.

For Naomi Brendsel, a senior accounting major at Minot State University, it’s a trip she has been waiting for since December.

“I’m getting more and more excited as time goes on.” she said. “Initially I wasn’t super excited; it was just like this is a cool opportunity.”

An opportunity that wouldn’t have been available if it wasn’t for the Nordic Waffles food stand at the Norsk Hostfest.

Cru, an on-campus church ministry group, was approached by the owners of this business for volunteers. In just her first time volunteering at the waffle stand, Brendsel became one of the few who were invited to help with a food event began 10 days before the Super Bowl in Minneapolis.

The members of Cru will be able to experience the Super Bowl and all of the festivities surrounding one of the biggest sporting events in the United State – a event half the nation dreams about – as the team left Friday and will return Monday.

“I work at United Community Bank and when I asked for the days off my co-workers were like ‘you actually get to go to the Super Bowl?’” she laughed. “That’s when I realized how cool it is and that I get to go and be aware of what is happening.”

Being an accounting major, the Super Bowl doesn’t directly relate to her future career. The ability to get out and network, though, will be priceless.

“It’s definitely something where I have the opportunity to get my name out there and meet different people,” Brendsel said. “And maybe through that I can receive some new opportunities.”
