Bachelor of Arts (BA)
The Bachelor of Arts with a Major in Art requires a selection of general education courses, a required core of foundational art courses, and specific courses in the option of your choice. Under the general education requirements, you will learn a broad spectrum of skills
including critical thinking, liberal education in the humanities, writing, and the sciences. Under the required foundation, you will learn about color, design, drawing, art history, graphic design, and photography. Under your specific option, you will take a selection of courses that will delve more into your interests and prepare you aesthetically and professionally for your career goals.

Studying art at MSU is a meaningful and rewarding creative experience, during which you will build confidence with technique, concept, design, and aesthetic judgment. The MSU Art Department is small enough to foster strong student mentoring and large enough to attract
quality professors who are engaged in outstanding research.

Careers in visual arts
Careers can include but are not limited to: graphic design, photography, animation, crafts, art history, museum/gallery work and can also propel you into working in the fine arts as a professional artist or an employee at a school or business.

Art Department Scholarship
The Harvey & Arlene Twyman scholarship is available to incoming freshmen, transfer students, and currently enrolled majors. Awards are based on the quality of applications and student portfolios. For more information or an application.
