Paraprofessional to Teacher Pathway (PTP)

The Minot State University Department of Special Education announces a new pathway to become a teacher!

Are you a special education paraprofessional eager to do even more to support the success of students with disabilities? The para-to-teacher pathway (PTP) allows you to become a special education teacher by earning your bachelor's degree with Minot State.

Ideal candidates need to:

  • be currently working as a special education para with at least one year of experience,
  • have an associate degree or some college completed*, and
  • have the support of their school administrators and special education teacher.

Flexible Delivery

Courses, seminars, and interaction with our expert faculty will be offered through accessible distance (no on campus classes) technology.

Site support

Candidates will receive on the job mentoring and modeling from their administrator, special education unit coordinator/director and their cooperating special education teacher.

  • Letter of Support Form
    Letters of support are required from 1) your building administrator (principal), 2) your special education unit coordinator or director, and 3) the special education teacher under whom you work (cooperating teacher).

Learn while you earn

Candidates will continue working in their para-professional position while completing the program.


Cohort model

Candidates will move through the program as a group providing consistency and peer support.
