Helping New MSU Students Succeed!
Minot State University is committed to your success and
we would like to invite you to take part in a program
focused on helping new students succeed in their
first year.
The Mentoring Program at Minot State University
is designed to assist incoming freshmen with their transition
to the academic
and social environment of Minot State University. This is accomplished by pairing incoming
freshman with a faculty/staff mentor who will help you
access resources and provide support to make your first
year at Minot State University a success.
Would you like to:
- Have an opportunity to meet new people?
- Have someone to ask questions, talk to or visit with?
- Have someone to help you identify campus resources when you have problems such as struggling in a class, getting sick, having roommate problems, etc.?
If you said yes to any of the above the
MSU Mentor Program is for you!
What is a Mentor?
- A faculty or staff member who is familiar with Minot State University programs and resources
- Someone who will listen to your concerns/questions and will help you access available services
- A person who has been through college, has learned from their experiences, and is willing to share what they learned with you
The Value of a Mentor?
Your mentor will support you throughout your first-year at Minot State University. You will be asked to meet with them at least three times per semester. Many of our current students drop in and see their mentor once a week; we are here for you whenever you need us. Your mentor will help you in any way necessary to make your transition as smooth as possible. Our goal is to help you realize you are a valued part of the Minot State University community.
Current Mentor Program Students Say:
Kala Wangsness, Sophomore from Powers Lake, ND
"I joined the Mentor Program because it sounded like it would make my first year at Minot State a lot easier and it has. My mentor has helped me see what needs to be done and when, given me a nice place to visit and talk about what's going on, and helped me find ways to deal with problems I faced in my first few months here."
Jennifer Sauter, Sophomore at Minot State University
Email written to mentor:
“Thank you so much for all the time you take and running around you do for me! It’s so cool! I appreciate it a ton. Anytime I ask you about anything you respond 150%, so thanks for everything!”
