First-Year Experience Program Goals
The purpose of the program is to increase retention and graduation rates in an effort to increase students’ chances of academic success.
This purpose will be met by pursuing the following goals:
- To connect students to their peers and faculty members
- To engage students with the campus and larger community
- To enhance students’ sense of belonging at MSU
- To communicate and facilitate student understanding of the academic expectations of the university.
- To enhance student competency in the following skills and capacities:
- written and oral communication
- critical thinking
- critical reading
- collaboration
- information literacy
- quantitative literacy
- problem solving
