The Paperworks juried exhibition at Minot State University has been through numerous changes. The first call for entries in 1969 started the National Print and Drawing Show. The 1980s brought National Works on Paper Exhibition to artists across the USA. A look forward to the new millennium in the 1990s re-titled the exhibitions to Americas 2000. Now, in an effort to better represent our multi-country appeal and entrants, we introduce INT'L Paperworks 2022. In this 51st year, it is our honor to share these works from across the world.

JUROR'S STATEMENT

In more than fifty years of exhibiting contemporary art, Paperworks has featured a sweeping range of possibilities within the medium. It was an honor to build an exhibition from an impressive grouping of submissions from around the world, each created within the past two years. Thank you to each artist who shared their work for consideration in this show. I’m glad to practice art in a world that has you and your work in it.

In the artworks I selected, artists manifest and share ideas and experiences through a thoughtful application of media. In an extraordinary era of potential isolation, reflection, and disruption of routine, artworks burst forth with vibrant colors and possibilities. Some explore vast complexities of natural and built environments, while others examine details of daily life that could easily be missed or dismissed. Together the works in INT’L Paperworks 2022 document innovations and experimentations in contemporary art, in which artists challenge themselves and their audiences during an exceptional time.
