Minot State University is recognizing 158 undergraduate students and 17 graduate students as candidates to receive their diploma as a December 2020 graduate.

“Congratulations to all of our students who are candidates for graduation following the Fall 2020 semester,” said Minot State President Dr. Steven Shirley. “It has been an unprecedented year for all MSU students, and truly a testament to the work ethic, drive, and determination of these students to complete their studies during the COVID-19 pandemic. We are proud of the accomplishments of our graduating class and wish each of them the very best as they begin the next chapter of their lives.”

Candidates for graduation are listed below according to hometowns and major(s). North Dakota graduates are listed first by hometown, followed by students with out-of-state addresses listed alphabetically by state, then hometown. Canadian students are listed alphabetically by province, then hometown, and finally, international students listed by country and hometown.

Minot State University and BEK TV have partnered in 2020 to televise Beaver athletic events both live on BEK’s statewide network and on MSUBeavers.com.

The agreement will feature BEK’s production at home men’s and women’s basketball games and home wrestling matches for the 2021 season. All home events will broadcast on MSUBeavers.com live via streaming. The original agreement also featured fall sports, but COVID-19 restrictions forced the cancellation of all fall athletic events throughout the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC).

Fans can find a listing of all Beaver home events at MSUBeavers.com and viewers can access all home and away live events featuring Minot State teams via the NSIC site at nsicnetwork.com/msubeavers.

BEK will also feature 17 live Minot State events on their statewide and regional networks including five men’s basketball games, four wrestling matches, four women’s basketball games, and four men’s hockey games.

BEK TV is available in Minot over-the-air at channel 24.1 and 24.2 (Plus West), on Midco on channel 612, and on SRT on channels 118/322. BEK TV statewide is also available in Fargo, Grand Forks, Bismarck, Williston, and Dickinson along with multiple rural communication outlets. BEK TV’s full listing of channels and affiliates along with schedules for all its news, sports, and television productions can be viewed at bek.tv.

The 2021-2022 Minot State General Scholarship Application is now available with a deadline to apply of Feb. 15, 2021. Please review the scholarship terms and conditions listed on the scholarship application page.  

Minot State offers a variety of scholarships funded by gifts to the University. Scholarships are based on academic achievements, financial need, and other criteria defined by the donors. The scholarship amounts vary depending on student eligibility and the availability of funds. Some Minot State scholarships available for the 2021-2022 academic year require a separate application form from our general scholarship application. Learn to play guitar! Register for Beginning Guitar: MUSC 180 TTH 6:30-7:20 p.m. No prior music knowledge needed. The class is designed for nontraditional music learning and you will be able to play guitar in no time. New guitars are available to purchase from local music store or rent one from the Division of Music. Email KATERI MILLER for questions. Only six spots available.

Minot State and the North Dakota Department of Health have set multiple future COVID-19 testing dates. The events are from 8-11 a.m. at the third-floor concourse at the Minot State Dome with 8-9 a.m. for MSU and DCB at MSU only.

• Monday, Jan. 11; Tuesday, Jan. 12; Tuesday, Jan. 19; Friday, Jan. 22; Monday, Jan. 25; and Friday, Jan. 29. Testing will take place from 8-11 a.m.

Northwest Arts Center
The gallery is located on the lower level of the Gordon B. Olson Library, with its own entrance on the south side of the library. The Arts Center is open on adjusted hours this fall, Tuesday through Saturday, 1-5 p.m. and by special arrangement. It is closed holidays.

Hartnett Hall Gallery
The gallery provides exhibition space for students, faculty, and community artists, and is located on the second floor on the west side of Hartnett Hall in Room 233. The Hartnett Hall Gallery is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.

Flat Tail Press
The gallery is located in the landing space on second and third floor of the Minot State Student Center, west entrance. It is open Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.-1 a.m.

Efraín Amaya's latest CD "Constellations," a chamber opera, was released Dec. 15, by ALBANY RECORDS. “Constellations” was created with a story and libretto by Susana Amundaraín. It was inspired by the work and life of renowned Spanish artist Joan Miró, just before the onset of World War II, in the coasts of Normandy.

Daniel Conn’s, teacher education and kinesiology, sabbatical “Miskwaange” was recommended by the Faculty Senate Sabbatical Committee for the 2021-22 academic year, and it has been approved.

Lori Garnes has been hired to serve as the executive director of North Dakota’s Center for Persons with Disabilities (NDCPD). Garnes has been the associate director of NDCPD since 2011.

Teresa Loftesnes, director of marketing, has been appointed board president for Metigoshe Ministries.

Beth Odahlen, Academic Support Center director, has been appointed the Board President for Strengthen ND.  Strengthen ND is a dynamic, multi-faceted and well-connected organization that works across North Dakota to elevate nonprofits and rural communities to support a high quality of life and resources for vulnerable populations through community development.

Doug Tiedman, online instructional design and media specialist for the Center for Extended Learning, was named Minot State University Staff Senate's November High Five Award winner.

Jessica Morton was selected as the ASC Student of the Month for November. She has contributed to the Academic Support Center’s programs as an Access Services Graduate Assistant and Peer Tutor.
