Chapter 30: Montgomery GI Bill - Active Duty (MGIB)

The Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB) is available to those who enlist in the U.S. Armed Forces. There are two main programs:

The Montgomery GI Bill - Active Duty provides up to 36 months of education benefits to eligible veterans who received an Honorable Discharge, earned a high school diploma or GED (or earned 12 college credits in some cases) and meet the requirements of one of four MGIB categories (link)

If all 36 months of eligibility have been used under Chapter 30, a veteran may switch over to Chapter 33 and use an additional 12 months of entitlement.  The benefit is paid directly to the student in the form of a monthly stipend.
