Welcome to the Minot State University Teacher Education and Kinesiology Department website.  Our highly qualified faculty are committed to preparing students for successful careers in education, athletic training, physical education, and corporate fitness and wellness management.

As a faculty member and Department Chair, I bring a wide variety of experience to the Department of Teacher Education and Kinesiology.  My career has included the following positions: Admissions Counselor at Minot State University,  Speech-Language Pathologist, Wellness Director and Cardiac Rehab Specialist at Trinity Health, and Department Manager of Marketing, Public Relations, and Community Education at Trinity Medical Center, owner of  two fitness businesses,  and Professor at Minot State University.

I am the author of two books, “101 Brain Boosters” and “101 Ways to Age Gracefully”.  My daughter, Katie Eckmann, and I coauthored “101 Mindfulness and Meditation Practices”.  I present internationally on topics related to exercise, aging, and the brain.  Many students at Minot State University have been involved in research with me to study the effects of exercise on cognition, fitness parameters, and body image.  MSU student groups travel with me to teach group exercise and yoga at international resorts.

I grew up in Halliday, North Dakota.  I am married and have two children and one grandchild.  I love to travel, read, walk, hike, cook, entertain, and spend time with family and friends.
