MSU Profiles


Minot State University continues its tradition of excellence with its 88th Homecoming, which centers on the theme of "Wild with Beaver Pride." Homecoming Week officially kicks off Sept. 13 and runs through Sept. 17.

"Each year Homecoming gets bigger and better, and I'm excited to see it all come together," said Janna McKechnie, director of alumni relations and annual giving. "As Minot State joins our community supporters in being 'Wild with Beaver Pride,' we hope everyone will participate in the many events for our alumni and friends."

Free for the entire community, MSU hosts the Community Block Party Sept. 13, 5-7 p.m., in front of the Dome on 11th Avenue. The Block Party promises family fun and entertainment for all ages. There will be free food (while it lasts), bounce houses and assorted kids' activities, door prizes and music by the MSU Marching Band. Homecoming coronation is set for 6:30 p.m. All activities will move inside the Dome if inclement weather develops. At Herb Parker Stadium at 7 p.m., the MSU Soccer Team will battle against the University of Mary.

To honor donors to the university, the Office of the President will host a President's Club Luncheon Sept. 14.

Sept. 15, recipients receive the highest honor bestowed by the MSU Alumni Association at a banquet in the Conference Center at 6 p.m. David Gowan, Walter Piehl Jr. and Tom Probst are the 2016 Golden Award recipients, while Matt and DelRae (Zimmerman) Geinert will receive the Young Alumni Achievement Award. Sept. 16, the Homecoming Alumni Reunion, open to all MSU alumni and friends of the university, will convene at the Sleep Inn (2400 10th St. SW), 7 p.m. Special reunion groups include members of Student Government Association, residence life and volleyball and softball teams. Also that evening, the MSU Volleyball Team will play against Northern State University in the Dome at 7 p.m.

Sept. 17 begins with the MSU Soccer Team playing Augustana University at Herb Parker Stadium at 11 a.m. Registration for the Homecoming 5K Run/Walk, 5k flyer 2016.pdf , is in the Dome's south lobby at 10:30 a.m. with the race beginning promptly at 11:45 a.m. The route starts and ends on 11th Avenue in front of the Dome and will include the parade route. The race is a scholarship fundraiser. Homecoming reaches its apex with the Homecoming Parade at noon. The parade route will culminate in the Dome parking lot.

A tailgate party will follow in front of the Dome on 11th Avenue. The MSU Beavers face off against the University of Sioux Falls in football at Herb Parker Stadium, 3 p.m. During halftime, the Homecoming Royalty and members of SGA, residence life and volleyball and softball teams will be introduced.
