Social Media

Social media is a powerful tool for us to connect on a personal level with students, alumni and friends. It allows us to tell the story of our place, vision, mission and values and most importantly our people.

Policies for use of Social Media (Not including Athletic Department Accounts)

Social media refers to sites designed to allow and encourage social interaction. Official Minot State University non-athletic social media accounts include Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Minot State has two types of accounts: primary (non-student clubs/organization accounts) and secondary (student clubs/organizations).

Social media useage by departments to attract new and retain current students is encouraged. To ensure that your content reflects the university's voice, please follow these policies:

Recommended for Secondary

Minot State University social media accounts require approval via the Marketing Office (MO) to ensure proper use of Minot State's brand identity.

Minot State University social media accounts should be clearly identified by using Minot State University or Minot State rather than MSU due to other MSU schools in our region. Naming your social media account(s) is important for clearly marketing your social media platform as a member of the Minot State University community.

Minot State's social media administrator is required as a secondary administrator for all accounts. This allows access if the lead administrator leaves the university, the account gets hacked, inappropriate messages need immediate attention, and/or technical issues arise. The MO will not post to any Minot State accounts other than in the case of an emergency. Please add socialmedia@minotstateu.edu as a secondary administrator.

The Minot State University logo is required for Facebook and Twitter accounts in the profile graphic area, which is the smaller, left hand graphic. The larger, cover photo area, allows you to customize your page with a panoramic photo/graphic across the top. Entities may choose from the gallery of photos at MinotStateU.edu/marketing, submit a photo for approval, or request a photo/graphic from richard.heit@MinotStateU.edu.

Accounts inactive for longer than one month may be considered for termination.

It is expected that all Minot State University social media accounts will refrain from disrespectful comments and inappropriate language.
