Let’s review what we just did.

We started our search in the Subject Terms search area so we c
ould browse subject headings and discover the words the database uses for our concept. We found that Academic Search Premier uses the subject terms Sport team mascots to describe the issue of team mascots.

Once we had found the subject term we were looking for, we searched the database for articles about sports team mascots. This search netted us 183 or so citations. In examining the Subject Term field of a particularly relevant citation, we found another apt subject heading--INDIANS as mascots.

By starting our search in the Subject Terms area, and by examining the Subject Terms field of our citations, we took advantage of Academic Search Premier’s vocabulary to do a precise search for citations about our topic. We recommend you try doing your searches in a similar manner--your results will be better and your searches will be more time-efficient.

This concludes this session about Precise Searching in Academic Search Premier. Thanks.
