Spring 2021 Grading Options

S/U Grading Option Policy – Spring Semester 2021
As part of Minot State University’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, all students shall have the option to convert any or all letter grades (A-F) they earn in their undergraduate classes during the spring semester 2021 to S/U grades.

  • Before choosing this grading option for one or more of their classes, students should consultcwith their academic advisors and the Financial Aid office regarding potential impact to theirfinancial aid, licensure requirements, and graduate school admissions.

  • In addition, student-athletes should consult with the Director of Compliance for MSU Athletics prior to choosing this option. Veterans and active duty military personnel, as well as their spouses and dependents who are entitled to benefits, should consult with MSU’s Military Resource Center prior to choosing this grading option.

  • Students must initiate “opt-in” to S/U grading.

  • Students can change to S/U grading from May 10, 2021 through May 26, 2021. The change to S/U grading is permanent; therefore, students may want to wait until their grades are posted to request S/U grading.

  • An “S” grade includes A-C grades in the standard A-F grading scheme and “U” includes D and F grades. S/U grades will not impact the student’s GPA.

  • Academic Standing and Honors will be reviewed closely and exceptions made on a case-bycase basis.

  • This policy overrides all program-level grading policies currently in effect at Minot State, including those related to courses within the major, pre-requisite courses, and maximum number of credits that a student can earn with S/U grades.

  • A notation on the transcript for spring semester 2021 will indicate the extraordinary circumstances that occurred during this term.

Additional information, including a link to the form to change to S/U gradiing, will be posted on the Registrar's COVID-19 Updates/Processes page. More information will be sent as May 10 approaches.
